Stag Beetle ~ Adversaries
The fictional world for these stag beetles is not utopian and while harmony is preferred, rival stag beetles still succumb to competitive ways and males seek dominance over their fellow beetles. Thankfully superiority between rivals is generally settled by horn length which these 2 are at pains to gauge.
When not testing their horns, beetles cooperate well and happily compete as a team in the annual insect race where they compete with dung beetles and weevils.
Here the beetles spar on a section of oak tree bark cast in bronze and finished with a dark patina with burnished highlights.
The sculpture is available in 2 limited editions of 10 pieces, available with stainless steel beetles or with bronze beetles. A similar beetle can be purchased as a free-standing sculpture in steel or bronze.
